Tourism will Bounce Back in Maldives

Updated: May 2, 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected Maldives tourism to heights that none expected. Maldives is commonly known for its beautiful beaches, turquoise waters and the luxurious services offered by resorts. These key selling points of Maldives tourism earned the country’s economy a thriving Two billion dollars per annum. The economy is now experiencing a drastic drop with Zero tourist arrivals and the temporary closure of almost 90% of the resorts in the country.

How & Why do you think Tousim in Maldive would bounce back?

1. Aggressive closure strategies implemented by resorts

90% of resorts decided to halt their operations for a period of 3 to 6 months enabling them to hold on to funds and not be drained out till recovery of the Covid-19 Global pandemic. Majority of staff were expected to bare a pay reduction till the Pandemic sees its end. This will enable the resorts to be back in business at the same capacity and offer the same services which all travelers expect. Some of the international chains such as Hyatt hotels and Park group Hotels has deiced to continue their ongoing operations through these tough times which also shows that hotel chains with bigger pockets are able to survive such a Pandemic.

2. Aggressive Marketing strategies implemented by resorts

Resorts have already taken a radical approach towards marketing the services with improved offers, incentivizing agents for future travel and providing flexibility for reservations already made. The resorts expect to reinstate a significant percentage of the reservations which were cancelled due to Covid-19, by providing penalty free date changes

3. Government grants

The Maldives government has shown its prompt interest of rebuilding the tourism sector with offering grants to Resorts and other tourism related sectors.

4. Investment opportunities

By word “there is a silver lining in every cloud” and as such, the Pandemic could create new business opportunities to new investors with improved strategies of sustaining the tourism sector. Investors may see this as an opportunity to acquire properties in the verge of insolvency at the bottom of the market.

As the number of Covid-19 cases continue to increase globally, experts are unable to speculate a specific end date of the pandemic or a period of recovery for tourism in Maldives.

Therefore, let us wish for a speedy recovery. Stay safe at home, Keep your minds clean and hands cleaner. We will make your travel arrangements to the beautiful Maldives islands when it is safe to travel.

Don’t we all need a vacation after surviving the worst Pandemic the globe has ever experienced?
